MIPI Alliance Announces Board Leadership Appointments

PISCATAWAY, NJ–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The MIPI Alliancean international organization that develops interface specifications for the mobile and mobile-influenced industries, today announced the appointment of Sanjiv Desai, Intel Corporation, as MIPI Alliance Chair board of directors. Desai, who had served as vice president since 2013, took on the role of longtime president Joel Huloux of STMicroelectronics, who announced his upcoming retirement. Along with this transition, board member Rick Wietfeldt, Qualcomm Incorporated, was named vice chairman.

The board leadership transition took effect March 23, although Huloux will remain on the board until a new ST representative is appointed. Additionally, Peter Lefkin has been promoted to Executive Director of the MIPI Alliance and will continue to serve as Secretary to the Board. Hezi Saar of Synopsys Inc. remains Treasurer of the Board of Directors, a role he has held since 2016.

Desai joined the MIPI Board of Directors in 2006, first as Treasurer and later serving as Vice President in 2013. He has over 30 years of industry experience in various management positions. architecture and engineering management in the areas of central processing unit (CPU), chipset designs and platform development. Desai is Senior Director of the Client Computing Group Architecture Team at Intel, responsible for defining Intel’s next-generation client platform architectures. He also leads the development of Intel’s client platform standards strategy focused on wired interfaces.

Wietfeldt has been actively involved in MIPI since its inception and a member of the board of directors since 2018. He is also currently co-chairman of the MIPI Security Working Group and was chairman of the MIPI Technical Steering Group (TSG) from 2012 to 2018. He is a frequent presenter and author on technical topics for the MIPI Alliance. For his significant contributions to various task forces and his leadership of the TSG, Wietfeldt was recognized with a MIPI Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014. He is currently Senior Director, Technology, at Qualcomm.

Huloux has been instrumental in MIPI since its inception, serving on the Board of Directors since MIPI was founded in 2003 and serving as President in 2008. Under his leadership, MIPI grew to over 350 members and has adopted over 50 specifications that have been implemented in billions of devices worldwide, including every smartphone on the market today. During his tenure, MIPI’s specifications were also extended to several adjacent industries, including IoT, automotive, and industrial, while many industrial linkages further expanded the scope of MIPI. For his efforts, Huloux was recognized with a MIPI Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013.

Lefkin has provided leadership and direction to the standards development community for over 20 years. As COO/CFO of the IEEE Industry Standards and Technology Organization (IEEE-ISTO), he played a key role in the formation of the MIPI Alliance and became its Managing Director in 2011. As a senior executive of MIPI , he is responsible for all MIPI activities. and operations, from strategy development to implementation.
