Tech giant Apple Inc. is looking beyond China for the production of its gadgets, according to a recent report published by the wall street journal said. Recently, the multinational asked some of its subcontractors to increase production outside of China, with India and Vietnam considered as possible alternatives. It’s pertinent to note that this consideration was taken as China is still mired in coronavirus regulations amid a recent spike in infections.
However, the pandemic is not the only reason for this possible relocation. Beijing has refrained from adopting any punitive measures against its ally Russia, a position widely criticized by the West. Now, with Apple looking to reduce its reliance on China, other Western countries may also follow suit and find other locations for production or raw material sourcing.
Currently, an estimated 90% of all Apple products, including iPhones, iPads and MacBook laptops, are made in China by outside contractors. However, the chief executive denied any dependence on the Asian giant and said the company’s supply chains were global. Interesting way. India produced 3.1% of the world’s iPhones last year, and that proportion is expected to rise from 6% to 7% this year, according to research firm Counterpoint.
Apple plans electronic paper display
This comes from a well-known Apple analyst at TF International Securities, Ming-Chi Kuo, who suggested the Cupertino-based tech giant is testing an electronic paper display for its upcoming foldable device. Such a type of display is found on e-readers like Kindle. On May 17, 2022, Kuo took to his Twitter handle to share that Apple is testing E Ink’s Electronic Paper Display (EPD) for its upcoming foldable device. The company will use EPD for foldable “cover screens and tablet-like apps.” At present, mainstream foldable smartphones available in the market include Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy Z Fold 3. Among these, Galaxy Z Fold 3 has a large cover screen in addition to the main screen that folds out. From what it looks like, the analyst suggests that Apple could use the EPD for its foldable’s exterior display, which is used when the device is folded.
